Europe’s most prominent massif- 11th in the world in topographic prominence
Located in the Graian Alps the “White Mountain” lies on the border between France & Italy.
This photograph was taken over the Glacier du Géant from a Cable Car…
the 5k ride- the highest cable traverse in the world.
On a windy day, I boarded the small gondola & concentrated on the photographs, the exposure was incredible!
The “towerless” lonely cable stretched nearly 3 miles from Aiguille du Midi to Point Helbronner, straight across the face of Mont Blanc.
Directly below me were mountaineers playing on the Glacier…
Ice Axes, Crampons & Knicker Socks were everywhere!
The first recorded ascent of Mont Blanc was in 1786, today 20,000 mountaineers a year attain it’s summit.
Captured in 1986 on Kodachrome 25, Nikon F3, Nikkor 50mm 1.4
